Overview

The EU Withdrawal Button adds a simple, legally compliant way for your customers to cancel (“withdraw from”) their orders within the cooling-off period required by EU law. It places a small floating button on your storefront. When a shopper clicks it, the app walks them through a short form that records their cancellation request, sends them a confirmation email, and stores a tidy record for you inside the Shopify admin. You don’t need to know anything about Shopify apps or EU law to use it — this page explains both in plain language.

What is the “right of withdrawal”?

In the European Union, online shoppers have a legal right of withdrawal. This comes from an EU law called the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU). In simple terms:

The 14-day rule

A customer who buys online can change their mind and cancel the order within 14 days of receiving it — without giving any reason. This is often called the cooling-off period.
To comply with this law, stores must give customers a clear and easy way to declare that they are withdrawing. The EU even publishes a standard “model withdrawal form” that the wording should be based on. The EU Withdrawal Button does this for you automatically.
This app helps you offer a compliant withdrawal process. It is not legal advice. If you are unsure about your obligations, check with a legal professional for your specific situation.

Why use this app?

Without a dedicated tool, customers usually email or call to cancel, and you track everything by hand. That’s slow, easy to get wrong, and hard to prove if a regulator ever asks. This app:

Gives customers a clear path

A visible button and a guided, step-by-step form — no confusion about how to cancel.

Sends legal proof automatically

Every confirmed withdrawal triggers a confirmation email — the durable record the law expects.

Keeps a full audit trail

Every request is logged with a reference number, timeline of events, and the exact items.

Handles the rules for you

It automatically checks the 14-day window and skips orders that are exempt.

How it works at a glance

1

A customer clicks the button

The floating “Withdraw from contract” button appears on your storefront. The customer looks up their order with their order number and email.
2

They choose what to cancel and confirm

They pick which items (and how many) they want to withdraw, optionally add a reason, and confirm using the legally required wording.
3

Everyone gets a record

The customer receives a confirmation email and an on-screen receipt with a reference number. You get a notification and a new entry in your admin.
4

You process the withdrawal

From the admin you review the request, mark it In progress, Completed, or Rejected, and issue any refund through Shopify as usual.
